| 60029 | Our friends in the Manchester Model Railway Society are contemplating a model of Peak Forest, set around the year 2007 - WFRM present this information to help them in their planning and also for anyone else who may be interested in the Peak Forest area - All photos were taken in 2007 by Dave and John Skipsey who retain the copyright.
The railway location known as Peak Forest is about 2.5 miles from the village of the same name and actually resides in a village called Peak Dale. The fuelling point and sidings are located in the area which was formally Peak The main station buildings at Peak Forest remain and are used by EWS as a signing on point. Traces of platform remain and the imprints of the removed platform can be seen. The stabling point was opened in the 1990s and replaced Buxton depot (which is now closed) as the principle provider of motive power for the numerous mineral trains which operate through the area. Simple refuelling of locos is carried out here and, as for most other depots within EWS the main servicing of the locos is done at Toton. It is possible to get nice shots from the road over bridge, although care must be exercised as some of the cars like to try and enter the earths orbit as they pass. Paths exist down each side of the line although the East path is considerably more difficult to traverse and consideration must be given to any animals with young that are in the field at various times of the year. Traffic in the area is operated by EWS and Freightliner using class 60 and 66 locomotives. Please do not trespass on the railway - its not big and its not clever Feel free to download photographs and print them out for your own use, but please remember that all images are copyright and must not be used for commercial purposes or redistributed without written permission from the copyright owners | |
