The basics

Firstly get yourself a copy of RailRoad and Co - from here

Please note, there is more than one way to "build" the panels, I will describe one way, with experiment and experience you will come to learn about other ways, the aim of this clinic is to get you to the stage where you can create your own working panel(s).

On both of our club layouts we use the following hardware in connection with RR - our system is Digitrax based - there are other components available for other systems

A PC (well three in our case, but one will do for now!)

A RR-circuits loco buffer (one per PC)  - this is the interface from the computer to the Digitrax based loconet.

A Digitrax SE8C - for colour light control (and other stuff)

We use NCE switchits and switch8s to drive the Tortoise motors fitted to all the points

No - its not cheap to get computerised, but the prototypical nature of the operation and the ease of change makes it worthwhile (to us) (remember this setup will work for multiple layouts not like a conventional panel which is targetted for just one) - lets see how we get on.

WFRM is not connected with the suppliers below but we *are* happy customers of them - we are also not responsible for the content of external links.

Loco Buffer available from DCC Supplies (UK) here

SE8C available from Tonys Trains in the USA here

and from Bromsgrove Models in the UK here

Switchits and Switch8s are available from Tonys Trains and Bromsgrove
